“Disappointing and very noisy”

The house had a charming character and a huge, nicely decorated room with a very comfy bed. I appreciated being able to park here before check‑in so we could explore the town. Unfortunately, this was the least favourite stay of our holiday. The bathroom needed an upgrade, but the worst was the noise: we were on the ground floor and heard significant noise from the room above when trying to sleep in the evening and again between 3.30‑4.00 am, loud enough to wake us both. Then vehicle noise outside—at one point it sounded like bins being emptied—made for a very poor night's sleep. I’m not blaming the guests above; they probably didn’t realize how much sound carried, but I don’t think the room we stayed in should be let to paying guests. Worst of all was the staff member at breakfast who asked my husband if we had a good night. When he said it was noisy she simply replied, “it is an old house,” and didn’t invite any further discussion. Bottom line: don’t stay in GALA, the room we had, if you value your sleep.
