The hotel was pretty good and had a historic vibe. The TV in our room smelled, and we couldn’t reach reception; they need an alarm that doesn’t trigger when we vape, so we had to go downstairs when it rained 😂 but thanks, Mako Hotel.

“Terrible stay and if I could have got a refund, I would have taken it and left”

It’s in the middle of the cafes, and we dined at the on‑site restaurant where the staff were awesome! The food was lovely and great value. The sign telling you to close the bathroom door when showering is behind the door; it should be in front before you enter. While showering, the steam set off the fire alarm and they tried to bill us for the call‑out. Make sure you read their fine‑print policy. Worse, you have to go to the public bar to collect your key. They never warned you that steam from the shower can trigger the fire alarm if you leave the door open. The sign placement is awful. We also didn’t know children weren’t allowed, yet we had brought them before. There was no quilt on our bed. The sheets looked unwashed, but we were exhausted and just wanted to sleep; it was a hot night, otherwise we’d have frozen with the thin blanket in room 1. No one manned the reception; you have to call and leave a voicemail, though they do ring or text back. I’d only return if I had no other options.

“Beyond low budget”

The location and the beds were comfortable. Everything else was terrible. On a Saturday night, loud guests played music, yelled, and slammed doors. The whole place smelled musty and like cigarettes. Traffic noise outside was very loud. If you don’t care about sleep or hygiene, this might suit you.
