I stayed in the old building and the photos online were far from reality—everything looked dirty, especially the hallway and lobby. My friend requested a non‑smoking room but was sent to a smoking one, which was very uncomfortable. The hallway had that old ryokan smell that was also unpleasant. There was a coffee set in the lobby, but nothing was actually prepared, which was disappointing.

The room was spacious, and the separate toilet and bath were very clean, which I really liked. However, the check‑in took a long time, and even though I had paid in advance, I was still billed and ran into various other issues.

Because it was off‑season, they upgraded me to a higher‑grade room at the same price, so I had a very comfortable stay. I did feel rushed when the cleaners came before check‑out.

The proprietress and everyone else were wonderfully attentive. The room was clean, the air‑conditioner was set to a nice temperature, and my family of three enjoyed a comfortable time; I’ll definitely return when I go to Kanebayashi again. The only slight drawback was that the shower pressure could have been a bit stronger, but otherwise there were no problems.
