The beachfront spot was cozy and comfortable, and being right next to locals made for a salty vibe; it might not feel super private because neighbors use the water tap in front of the property, but that’s fine if you’re inside.

The cottage right on the beach was charming and spotless, with a small outdoor nook that had a kitchen and day bed, plenty of character, and thoughtful décor; we slept to waves, woke to sunrise over Mt Agung, and enjoyed sunset views, though the lack of windows made it a bit hot and stuffy—an optional fly screen on the big wooden door would help keep mosquitoes out, which were only a few during our stay.
