“An amazing historic building, good restaurant but the rest is a disaster”
I have over 15 years of experience in international business, have traveled worldwide, and never rated a hotel below 7 because I dislike negative energy. When I left this chateau, I was still happy because at 95 EUR/night in such a building I expected a hatch. I decided not to rate. Everything changed after several attempts to get my invoice for the company and a person on the phone shouting at me that I was arrogant. I rate 3 because I appreciate an amazing building, a good restaurant, and the place is clean in general. The hotel bar looked beautifully designed (rating as an ex‑Pernod Ricard employee) but was empty, which was a pity. The rest is a disaster because of a lack of personnel, probably due to poor management. No blame on a single employee—it’s not their fault if they do everything themselves. The stay was full of issues. The elevator was out of order, and when the receptionist showed me to my room on the fourth floor, we discovered it had not been cleaned. He then tried four other rooms, but some were occupied and others were also unclean. Eventually, he found another room and left me there for a few seconds only for a cleaning lady to point out that even the bedsheets were dirty. The cleaning lady left the guy saying she is not coming the next day if the elevator won’t work—nice. We finally found a clean room, but it was heated to around 40 °C—probably a payback to the owner’s wallet from an angry employee or a guest. Breakfast was very, very poor, with limited choice and no staff present. However, the main reason for this review is the invoice. I requested an invoice with my company details in advance. Upon arrival, the receptionist asked me to send the details to an email address, which I did. After checkout I was assured the invoice would be sent as they cannot print it now; I sent two email reminders and another message, but received no response. When I finally called, the receptionist told me their servers had been down for two weeks and asked why I was being so arrogant when I explained that I was driving and could not write down a phone number he was redirecting me to. Mistakes happen, but the repeated problems finding a clean room, poor breakfast, and especially the unprofessional handling of a simple invoice request made this a very disappointing experience.
