It was in a quaint old home and the staff was good, but it wasn’t maintained well. All the furnishings were old and worn, the floors were uneven and creaked badly, and there were parts of the floor so uneven I tripped on them. The people walking above us could be heard very loudly, so I couldn’t sleep until they were up. The mattress on the bed was just a mattress with no foundation or box springs—lumpy and old. The room floors were not clean. The baseboard heaters only partially worked, the bathroom exhaust fan didn’t work, and there was no light in the shower. The room only had lamps and not enough light. The only TV was in the game room, and the room description didn’t mention that there would be no TV. There weren’t enough electrical outlets—no charging outlets for phones or tablets. The hair dryer only worked on one speed; the other two speeds didn’t work. The parking lot was mostly dirt and not conducive to rolling luggage. The lawn appearance and lawn/shrubbery/garden maintenance were unattractive. Breakfast service was very slow—took almost an hour to get seated and finish eating.

The location is perfect. I had a river running behind my room, and with the slider I could hear it all night. The breakfast was outstanding—full breakfast with the price of the room was very appreciated. No personal hygiene items, just a pump for hand soap. It seems like a small issue, but when every other hotel on the planet has them, it’s weird to not have any. The mattress was very thin; I could feel the springs. It wasn’t horrible, but it wasn’t great.

Love the setting and the made‑to‑order breakfast. We hit fall foliage season perfectly. Excellent reading rooms as well. Could not ask for anything more.
