The ventilation fan was powerful enough to make up for the absence of windows, and the room is close to the sea. However, there was no table or chair for working on a computer, and the room literally had no window.

The morning shift receptionist was friendly, but housekeeping left a lot to be desired: the cleaner forgot to empty the dustbin, and when we asked the night shift staff, she only handed us a plastic bag and told us to put the bin in front of the door ourselves. The room had a strange smell from rubbish and a cockroach, and we even saw a large cockroach roaming freely.

The hotel sits right in the trading city centre, with eco shops, DIY stores, banks and a McDonald’s all within walking distance, and the sea‑facing view is pleasant. The only downside is that you can still hear voices from other rooms, though only the loud ones.

The price was acceptable, but I was concerned that housekeeping didn’t change the bedsheets even though they were clean, which was my only worry. The Indian male staff member seemed rude when speaking, and I couldn’t tell what he was trying to do; he behaved differently with men versus women—he was fine with a Malay male who had resigned last year, who was kind and wished us a happy Hari Raya. Overall, peace.
