“Wish we’d chosen somewhere else.”

The location is good, but there’s no sound insulation between rooms so you can hear everything from either side; the fire doors in the corridors slam shut, and people talking in the hallways can be plainly heard, which makes it hard to sleep.

The staff are friendly, the rooms are clean and comfy, and the views and location are amazing, but the breakfast could definitely be better compared to the rest of the hotel.

“Never again”

The stay was a letdown, especially at breakfast. We had high hopes for Dornoch Station, yet the rooms felt dated and lacked any real charm. The staff were polite, but the accommodation itself was underwhelming. Breakfast was the main issue: the continental spread offered only one type of cold meat and two cheeses, all mass‑produced and of terrible quality. The problem wasn’t just the limited selection; the food itself was unappetising. The full English breakfast, also served buffet‑style, was mediocre and didn’t improve the situation. Neither option matched the standard one would expect from a hotel of this calibre. It also felt odd that guests had to pass staff who seemed to guard the entrance; checking breakfast eligibility is fine, but the heavy supervision felt out of place given the poor fare. I wish more attention had been paid to the food. We don’t demand extravagance, just decent ingredients that are well chosen and presented. Traditional décor alone isn’t a flaw, but both the rooms and especially breakfast fell far below what the hotel’s positioning promises.
