The village spot is charming, the building has character, the staff are superb, and the beers and food are great, but the property needs a serious overhaul and a fresh coat of paint.

Breakfast was really good and everyone on staff was welcoming, friendly and helpful; the beds were very comfortable and the hotel stayed quiet at night. However, the hotel clearly needs refurbishment and a refresh—it's an old building, which is part of its charm, but compared to other Green King spots it fell short of our expectations, giving off a shabby vibe that made us not want to return. We didn’t bother the staff because we felt it was a Green King management issue and they were doing what they could, so we only stayed for sleep and breakfast, avoiding dinner or lingering.

The sink was partially blocked and took more than half an hour to drain; I only noticed it at 11.20 pm when I was about to go to bed, which should have been caught and fixed by cleaning staff earlier. It was too late that day to fix it, so I had to figure out a workaround for the morning. Live music playing directly below my room ruined my ability to relax and enjoy peace and quiet.
