A large house for just the four of us, steeped in history, and the owner was extremely friendly; however, it felt a bit isolated and the road to town was windy.

We had booked this place months earlier, but after some tough news, it turned out to be the perfect spot to regroup; everything—from the linens and breakfast to the views—was next level, the staff were lovely, and learning about the whakapapa filled my Kete; I truly felt privileged to be on the whenua, and nothing disappointed us, even though it was the most we had ever paid for accommodation.

I had an incredible stay at this hotel, which boasts an amazing location that's perfect for experiencing world-class surfing. The beds were extremely comfortable, and the owners and staff were warm and welcoming. What truly stood out, though, was the strong cultural and familial ties to the land, which added a rich layer to our stay. The on-site dining and chef made our birthday celebration truly unforgettable.
