We loved Canmore, and Ambleside Lodge was within walking distance of town, so we didn’t need a car at all. Our hosts were wonderful, very friendly, very helpful, and made us feel at home. The house was beautiful, the breakfasts were wonderful, and we would definitely return. The only thing that could have been better would have been an en‑suite instead of a private bathroom, but that wasn’t really a problem.

Arriving for my first trip to Canada, I got all the practical details—check‑in, parking, breakfast timing—a couple of days before we landed. Annie and Brian greeted us right away, shared solid trail suggestions and local eateries, and Brian’s breakfasts kept changing, each one tasty enough to fuel our hikes. The Wilderness room was spotless, comfy, and they even let us borrow poles and crampons, plus it’s only a ten‑minute stroll into town—couldn’t ask for more.
