Last Word Madikwe surpassed every expectation. The lodge is stunning, the cuisine superb, and the game drives unforgettable. We spotted elephants, zebras, warthogs, baboons, and wildebeest repeatedly while watching the waterhole during the day and in the evenings—there’s almost always something to see! The entire team went above and beyond, especially in orchestrating a surprise proposal for my partner. Their planning, meticulous attention to detail, and discretion were remarkable, creating a truly spectacular and unforgettable moment. Our guide Juandre was fantastic throughout all drives; beyond the abundance of wildlife, he always offered fresh, interesting facts and anecdotes whenever we were lucky to spot animals again. Every staff member made us feel genuinely cared for. Danike, Liz, and Jodie handled the proposal with such skill that it exceeded everything we could have imagined. We couldn’t have chosen a better place to start such an important chapter of our lives. This lodge is genuinely exceptional, and the experience will stay with us forever. We highly recommend Last Word Madikwe and hope to return someday.

The service felt exclusive, with staff that were personal and attentive; the bar beside the resort was a real highlight—like a game drive but you lie down and sip a beer, and there’s even an underground hideout where you can watch the animals up close. The meals were superb and they accommodated my pescetarian preferences perfectly. At night we were pleasantly surprised to find water bottles in our beds, and the same happened during the game drive. It was chilly, but the blankets were warm and comforting. I especially enjoyed the campfire dinner in the evening; it was a lovely touch. The only downside was the distance from Johannesburg—about 4‑5 hours away—and the rides themselves can be a bit wild, so hold on tight when the ranger warns you. Otherwise, everything was safe; just stay in the vehicle and take plenty of photos.
