Nooit Gedacht Heritage Hotel

The hotel’s daytime vibe was genuinely pleasant, but my overall experience fell short of what the price justified. The bathroom door wouldn’t close or lock properly, opening on its own while showering, which was very uncomfortable. The balcony had no lighting, so it was pitch dark at night. I was disappointed that such basic issues weren’t checked before room assignment. We had told the hotel in advance that we would be checking out early and even gave the exact time, yet no one helped us with our luggage when we left. It was raining, yet no staff offered or brought an umbrella. For the amount I paid, I expected better room maintenance and service. The daytime ambience is nice, but the room upkeep and service need serious improvement.

“Great location, friendly staff, different vibes”

The hotel, once the Dutch governor’s residence, keeps colonial relics while providing a tranquil stay. Staff were friendly, and the property covers a large area with two swimming pools, a reading room, and halls displaying Dutch-era memorabilia. Facilities were clean, breakfast was great, and the hotel sits right beside the main road to Galle. Watch out for monkeys that roam the premises and sometimes appear on top of rooms at night.

Staff were friendly and customer service was good; the area is quiet and spacious, and the swimming pool is nice. The downside was the presence of cockroaches and mosquitoes.

The hotel radiates VOC history and looks very beautiful and traditional. Breakfast is extensive and good, and dinner is also tasty, though the extra VAT makes it pricey. The garden hosts lovely birds, fish, and lizards. The pool is large and offers a nice cooling spot.

Everything surpassed our expectations. The rooms with ensuite bathrooms were very clean, and all hotel facilities were available. The pool was very clean and a cleaner kept it tidy. The dining hall was extremely clean, well‑decorated, and organized. The ambience was peaceful and cozy. Food was tasty with reasonable prices. The property was stunning with many photo spots, better than the pictures suggested. Staff were kind and treated us well. We started with two rooms far apart; they kindly fixed a bed to a double room and arranged for all five of us in adjoining interconnected rooms. I would recommend this hotel to anyone. We paid 11k per person for one night with breakfast and lunch, and felt the money was well spent. The only downside was the 750m walk to the beach, and the food portions could be larger.
