“Have added this spot to one of my favourite places in my travels”
The highlight of this place is its seclusion and Sanjeev’s genuine hospitality. I wanted the last 24 hours in Sri Lanka to be quiet and peaceful, and that’s exactly what I got. I spent a good portion of that time chatting with Sanjeev about life, farming, rice, palmyra, and politics. He cared about every detail of my stay, not like some guest houses that treat guests as captured customers, but as a host who truly wants his guests to enjoy. If you meet anyone on the small holding, make sure you talk to them – every person I met was special, from the little girl Sanjeev tutors to his best friend who wanted to do his accounts in the peace of the grounds, to the sweet tuktuk driver from the same village. Muppet accidentally booked my taxi for the wrong day, but Sanjeev rescued me and found a local willing to take on the same fare for a 10‑hour round‑trip drive. The place is spotlessly clean, but the interior of the building might look a little tatty for some. Expect a basic guest house with good water pressure and air‑con, but not a five‑star resort. The beach has some plastic, but it’s public/gov property and, compared to the beach near Trinco where I stayed, this one was absolutely spotless.
