The location is good, but the bathroom was quite mouldy with a strong damp smell; we had to keep the window open and the door shut to stop the odor. We found solid bread crusts behind the bedside table when plugging in our charger and noticed stains on the carpet, though the bedding itself was clean.

The room was clean, tidy, and spacious, though the secondary glazing needs servicing; breakfast was excellent and the staff were helpful and friendly, with no negatives.

The staff were genuinely friendly and helpful, and the restaurant food was good and reasonably priced, but the room was very basic, uncomfortable, and had plumbing problems; we could hear everything outside, from other guests to the clock chiming.

The central location fit our needs perfectly, yet the building feels a bit old and tired and needs more development to bring it up to date; it requires maintenance and TLC. The historic ambiance is nice, but it’s a shame the building isn’t better maintained: wardrobe door handles fall off when opened, the shower drains slowly, and the macerator makes awful noise when flushing. Most furniture is hand‑painted and rough. The hotel has great potential but needs investment and owners who truly care. Parking isn’t on site, but there is plenty of nearby parking that’s easy to reach.
