I was the sole guest in an empty Tulum hostel, which made it feel deserted. When I asked for a different room, they said it was already booked or would cost four times more than my shared room. I stayed for a week and no one else ever showed up.

I walked into the room, paid, and left. The beds were awful – a sheet draped over the mattress protector, pillows that didn't support my head, and the white towels were actually gray.
