“Zufrieden”

I stayed in a nice, spacious double room with a small balcony overlooking the mountains, and the traditional alpine feel was more than adequate. The beds were comfortable, the bathroom was just enough for our needs, and breakfast was good. We brought a small dog, but it wasn’t allowed into the restaurant even though it sat quietly in a basket under the table – something that rarely happened during our eleven years of traveling together. In the bar, they set us a table where we could sit calmly, though the walk to the buffet took a bit longer. The grill dinner was very tasty and reasonably priced. There’s a lovely outdoor terrace and other facilities like a wellness area and pool, but we didn’t get to use them because of the autumn weather and our short stay. Parking costs 10 € and is video‑monitored; free spots are just a few steps away. We couldn’t find any alternative restaurants nearby, and when they were open, they were closed, so it seemed everyone ate in their accommodations. In the end we returned to the star‑hotel and had a great meal there.

“Preis Leistungsverhältnis lässt zu wünschen übrig”

The city centre of Bad Hofgastein is within walking distance. The Landhaus room offered a lovely mountain view and the sauna area was nice. Parking was a bit lacking: the spots in front of the building were rented for 10 € and camera‑monitored, there were only a few spots behind the house and a sand spot. When I ran out of a spot after a day trip, the receptionist told me I’d have to find one in town – not exactly the refined English style. The wooden beds creaked terribly, the kitchen extractor made an unpleasant noise on the balconies, and the billiard table was completely warped so the balls rolled to the centre. Breakfast for us was on 08/15, with no salmon, no champagne glasses, and no variety over the week, even though breakfast costs 27,50 € per person (unless included in the booking price). We only booked breakfast. Compared to guests with HP, we felt like second‑class guests because they always got the same table (morning and evening) while we had to move to free tables. In the last four days all tables were booked, which was a no‑go for us.

It was nice that the mountain tickets were included. The food was bad, with three buffets and one evening of fish sticks – not even the kids’ menu – and the price‑quality ratio was poor.
