Ye Olde White Harte Hotel

“Thoroughly enjoyable - couldn't have asked for a better place to finish for first night of trip.”

Cycling through Essex, I had no clue where I'd end up, but the Olde White Harte staff jumped in right away, letting me know a room was ready and that my bike could be stashed safely, which was a huge relief. I got there late, yet they arranged a supper for me—plaice and apple crumble that was absolutely delicious—and overall the team was very friendly and helpful. The location is spot‑on: right in town centre, great river views, and a pleasant vibe with locals drinking outside or dining in. I’d definitely recommend it to anyone passing through. The twin room’s beds aren’t huge but they’re comfortable, and while many rooms share a bathroom, that was clearly explained so there were no surprises.

“Handy rooms in Burnham”

There’s some free parking and decent evening food. Having a separate WC and shower would have been fine, but the shower had no hot water; I fiddled with the controls but couldn’t get it hot. The security lighting at night leaks through the curtains, which aren’t adequate.

“Great for coast path”

Meals offer great value and breakfast is solid. The hotel sits right on the King Charles III England Coast Path, a real bonus, and it’s opposite the ferry to Wallasea Island with a bus stop just 50 yards away, giving easy access to other parts of the KCIIIECP. I stayed in a twin room with a shared bathroom; a board with hooks would have helped, though I didn’t mind much and just put everything on the other bed.
