Jua Retreat is truly an amazing place; the villas are huge, with the biggest bed you’ll ever sleep in and plenty of space, built with a large hand‑woven roof in a traditional African style rather than a typical modern hotel room, and a lovely plunge pool, spacious shower/toilet area, and a covered porch for shade or rain; the views are incredible from every corner of the villa, even from the toilet, shower, or bed, overlooking the Indian Ocean; the Retreat itself is set in lush gardens with a real jungle feel and abundant wildlife, especially for bird and lizard lovers; the communal pool offers views of the Indian Ocean framed by trees, and there’s a gym, tennis court, and spa (extra cost); we knew the east coast was tidal before arriving, and we absolutely loved the ever‑changing beach, sandbanks, tidal pools, and ocean colors, stunning in each of its different guises; for food and drink, we were on the all‑inclusive package and never ran short, with a discreet wake‑up box on the porch each morning containing tea/coffee and biscuits, a “Good Morning Tray” at breakfast with juice, fruit, toast, bread, muesli, yoghurt, and a danish to keep you going before ordering the hot breakfast, excellent lunch options, and evenings offering a more fine‑dining menu that’s flexible—if you don’t fancy that, you can choose from lunch or vegetarian menus instead.
