“Disappointing, glorified Motel 6 with worse customer service and even less amenities. No disrespect to Motel 6-at least”
Being a disabled veteran, I liked the roomy walk‑in bathroom, but the first problem was a rude question about why I was there—“not welcome, how can I help you?” I had told the hotel beforehand that my husband and I would check in around midnight. When we got there, the front desk door was locked. After saying I had a reservation, a buzzer let me in, but there was no staff—just a kiosk with a woman on the screen who seemed angry. I wasn’t sure if she was a person or an AI because there was no sign that anyone was on site. The set‑up made it hard to hear her; she was impersonal and asked me to put my ID on the kiosk, then told me I had to pay a $150 deposit. I said the room was already paid in full and that nowhere on the hotel’s website or in my confirmation mentioned a $150 deposit. She said that was the policy and that I could talk to someone tomorrow when they opened the office. She also said the deposit was fully refundable. I asked if it was just a hold or a charge to my card; she said it was a charge and that I needed to enter my PIN, insisting it was hotel policy. I told her I wasn’t paying a deposit I hadn’t been told about and that any fees should have been clearly listed on the site. She didn’t care and I called the hotel. The representative was very professional, checked the site and my confirmation, and confirmed there was no mention of the fee in their policy. He called the hotel, spoke with the front desk, and told me it was fine to check in. He apologized for the inconvenience. The kiosk lady finally checked me in without the deposit and apologized, but I had been standing in that office for nearly 30 minutes trying to sort out something that shouldn’t have been an issue.
