Goulas Traditional Guesthouse

The room was tiny but gorgeous, with a simple yet sensational terrace overlooking the sea and the old town; the bathroom was modern and comfy, the bed was good, and Monemvasia itself is always magical! However, because the space was so tight, the metal corners of the bed were a bit dangerous and we ended up with bruises; another small tweak would be to add a fixed shower support. Still, it didn’t spoil the fun!

“Un séjour inoubliable !”

The hotel sits in an ideal spot, close to the town entrance—great when traveling with luggage—and just a stone’s throw from the sea, inside a private courtyard away from tourist traffic. Toula, the host, is charming, welcoming, and caring; her directions to the hotel were precise and especially helpful. We were running late for our arrival time and she was very understanding and kind. We had a wonderful stay in the ground‑floor apartment, a place full of charm, elegant, comfortable, and authentic. We especially loved its warm atmosphere, character, and that delightful feeling of living in a true little corner of Greece, full of authenticity and relaxed living. We were lucky to see a spectacular side of the island: the wind blew very hard and the waves crashed against the walls, offering a fascinating and impressive show—an unforgettable wild moment we’ll remember for a long time! In the evening we were alone on the courtyard terrace, watching the moon and listening to the raging sea. In that peaceful, timeless atmosphere we felt like we were the only ones in the world, suspended in an enchanted pause. An unforgettable stay in a place full of soul, which I warmly recommend to anyone looking for authenticity, charm, and serenity. A big thank you to Toula for her hospitality!

The host’s welcome was great, and the wide terrace with superb sea view was a highlight, although we couldn’t use it because of a storm. The walk along the evocative staircase leading to the upper abandoned citadel, the mystical/meditative charm of Agia Sofia, were all lovely. The building, like all Monemvasia accommodations, comes from old houses, so finding a balance between authenticity and comfort is tough: the rooms were a bit narrow, the window frames let in drafts that exposed their limits in strong wind. The tiny kitchen wall lacks a stove to heat drinks. The bathroom is also tiny, the drains are not siphoned, and there’s a bad, annoying sewer smell. The spring mattress needs replacement to protect future guests’ bones.

“Fantastique”

Everything was perfect; nothing to add. The reception hostess was super friendly. Unfortunately, there wasn’t a bottle of water—just a little disappointment.
