Guesthouse SETOUCHI LIFE

Setouchi Life feels like a very peaceful, mindful place to stay. It was the first stop on our two‑month cycle tour through Japan, and we honestly wished we could have stayed longer! It’s a great choice if you want an authentic local homestay experience, and our room had the most amazing view and terrace. There is also a great central hub with a shared kitchen for cooking and socialising. The vibe is definitely geared toward people staying long‑term to build community, which didn’t quite line up with us just passing through for a short stay.

The place is a homestay. The house is about 100 metres up in town, which is really cool because the view is really cool and beautiful! They were so sweet to take us up there and had everything ready for us!

“Feel a like-family stay. Very nice and it makes yoo feel included”

From the moment I walked in, I felt a warm welcome; the guests in the common area invited me to join them, and we even shopped and cooked together like a family. The only downside was the check‑in window, which felt a bit restrictive – I was under pressure to arrive before 6 pm or risk not knowing where to sleep.

“金ドブ”

I arrived to find no key or safe in my room, and the door was poorly fitted, making it noisy to open and close. The parking was full, so I was told to park at a nearby JA, but there was none available and the parking fee of 800 yen per night felt steep for such a short distance. The room lacked an air conditioner, the window screens were missing, so I couldn’t open the window. The bath was crowded, so I was encouraged to drive about 30 minutes to a nearby hot spring. All of this made the 11,000 yen per person per night feel too expensive. When I booked, I was told I would get a queen bed for two people, but I was first sent to a different room, then sent again to a room that still did not have a queen bed.

From the first contact, the staff were friendly and happily accommodated many of my requests. The night view from Otohidashi Bridge was beautiful, and the morning sea was also stunning.
