The scenic setting among a grove of olive trees, fruit trees, and other varieties was outstanding, and the drive to the house was indeed a sporting challenge with no traffic, rewarded by a magnificent view of the Gulf of Policastro; the reception was very friendly, the owner engaged and attentive, and despite the railway below, the quiet was flawless with no sound from the coastal road. However, the five rooms are arranged on two levels, the two on the upper level are positioned left and right of the breakfast area and all face a west‑facing terrace, so there is no private outdoor space or privacy, as from morning on other breakfast guests sit there and chat with the owner; thus one must live with closed windows unless one is comfortable showing off the pillowcase to fellow travelers. The breakfast is unfortunately fatal: the owner advertises her homemade cakes (which in Italy is always a strong point, "fatto io" or "della Mamma". who would dare say they don’t like cake for breakfast?), the yogurts are all sweetened, but the cold coffee is unacceptable even for an Italian at his Italian breakfast; when asking for hot water, a weak microwave reveals itself as a misfit, unable to heat the water, and the owner makes coffee with the lukewarm water from this hopelessly overworked microwave from the East; given the lack of a working stove, the question of eggs, scrambled eggs, etc. is irrelevant. Moreover, the absence of regional fruit, which grew visibly at the neighbor’s, was a bitter blow to the idyll.

“Perfekte Unterkunft”

The view of the sea was insanely beautiful and the breakfast on the terrace was great, with no negatives.
