Rooms come with flat-screen TVs, air conditioning, and minibars, as well as private bathrooms with showers, baths, and hairdryers. The hotel is near Liulichang Street, Taoranting Park, Temple of Heaven, and Tiananmen Square, with a fitness centre and buffet restaurant on site.

The breakfast was fantastic, but none of the night reception staff spoke English; we had to rely on patchy “Google Translator” apps on their i‑Phones.

The rooms were clean and comfortable, and the staff went out of their way to answer every question or problem that came up; getting a taxi or Didi to the city’s main sights was a breeze. The restaurant’s food was mediocre and didn’t offer a worthwhile local experience.

The location was very convenient, and the staff were helpful and friendly, but the beds were extremely hard.
