“this place is nothing like the listing: it is awful, dirty, dilapidated and loud”
The only good thing about this place was that I did not find insects (apart from mosquitoes), but I only stayed 2 nights, so it could be too little time to find some. It was so dirty that I would be surprised if there were no insects. My stay in this place was awful, so I would never recommend this place. Jaffna has some nice places to stay, but this is not one of these places. While the listing looks nice on the photos, in reality this place is terrible: dilapidated, dirty and loud. The "facilities" are a joke, the towels are threadbare rags. Also, the host (a woman who has a teenage son) is clearly dishonest: after I checked out and paid in full for the nights I stayed (the host issued a signed receipt), the host reported a no-show in , probably to avoid a bad review. Another reason why the host is dishonest is that they knowingly offer what they do not have: I did not get the room I booked (family room that was supposed to come with 3 beds: 2 large double beds plus 1 double bed), because they do not have such a room. The host told me that somebody else prepared the listing for her, suggesting that it is not her fault that there was an error. This is a lie, because it has been over 3 months and they have not corrected this "error" in their listing: they are still offering a family room with 3 double beds, so this shameful scam is their business strategy. If I knew how this place really looks, I would never have booked it, even if it was free. At 37 USD a night, it is daylight robbery for such conditions. I was to stay here 5 nights, but I left after 2 nights – as soon as I found appropriate alternative accommodation. If I could find a good alternative sooner, I would not stay here at all. I immediately reported the issues to (during checkin): unfortunately, they were absolutely useless and I had to find alternative accommodation on my own. For 37 USD a night, I booked a family room with 3 double beds, a bath, a fridge and a dining table. When I came, it turned out that they are lying , because they do not have such a room. The room they gave me had 2 beds, one of which had a rather good, thick mattress, while the second bed had a very thin pad (it is hard to call this a mattress) that was basically not fit for purpose. The second bed frame was also terribly squeaky, which meant little or no sleep. When I arrived, the bathroom was dirty, it was just awful. It should never look like this, but it looks like they do not care. In the room, there are large water stains (from leaks) on walls, including massive stains from AC: the AC managed to work for less than 24 hours, then water started dripping from AC, which should not happen in well-maintained AC. During the second night, the AC started making noise like an airplane during takeoff, waking me up in the middle of the night. The host offered 1000 LKR (3 USD) reduction per night for all these problems, which was ridiculous and offensive. So I refused such a reduction and paid the full price for 2 nights (25000 LKR, so 74 USD). After I paid and checked out, it turned out that the property reported a no-show to – probably to avoid a bad review, maybe also to avoid paying commission to . This experience taught me some things: - avoid places that require a cash payment (like this place): they want you to pay up front for the entire stay, so if anything is wrong (everything was wrong here), they have your money and there is no easy way of getting your money back; when you pay with card, you can use chargeback -- this is precisely why places like this require a cash payment - if you are planning a longer stay, split this into more than one booking, so that you can check if the place is OK during first night or two and cancel the rest if needed - do not believe google reviews written by people who have 1-2 reviews
