The Hermitage Park Hotel, situated on the edge of Charnwood Forest between M1 and M42, offers modern elegance. Located 20 minutes from East Midlands Airport and Donington Park, it features well-equipped bedrooms with tea/coffee facilities and TVs. Nearby attractions include Mallory Park (20 minutes) and The National Exhibition Centre (40 minutes by car).

I stayed at a decent budget hotel close to Coalville’s centre. Getting there by public transport isn’t the simplest, yet buses from Derby, Hinckley, Leicester, Loughborough, and others make it doable. The on‑site restaurant didn’t serve alcohol, so I skipped dinner, but I did receive vouchers for a biker pub across the road. Breakfast was a continental buffet with a custom hot order, and it was great value. The communal areas and rooms aren’t the most glamorous and look a bit worn, but everything was clean and functional, and there were plenty of towels.

Breakfast wasn’t included, even though the website said it was when we booked, but the confirmation clarified that it wasn’t.
