Rorkes Drift Campsite is a friendly, well‑priced place to stay if you want to visit the battlefields. The area is very rural and gives you a feel for rural South African life. The owner also offers tours of the battlefields. The place is still in development, but what might still be missing, Bryan and his family make up in hospitality!

Bryan, our host, was excellent; he made us feel very welcome and truly looked after us. He’s a walking encyclopedia on the Zulu wars. The weather could have been a bit warmer, but as it’s the middle of winter that’s asking for a bit of the impossible.

Bryan was an excellent host who took me on a tour of the battlefield, narrating the battle in a detailed and entertaining way. After that, he arranged a campsite for me on short notice, and we ended the night with a traditional Zulu Braai alongside Bryan and his colleagues.

Bryan and Philani went above and beyond to make my solo stay unforgettable, setting up a large bonfire and chatting with me all evening. The tent was simple but cozy, with warm blankets, a torch, and piping‑hot showers—overall a fantastic experience.

The African hills offered superb views, and the tents were excellent with very comfortable beds. Food and drinks were plentiful, and the hosts were warm and friendly.
