The staff were friendly and helpful, but the rooms felt old and worn with tired furniture, stained carpets, and a lack of privacy—every sound from the neighboring room, even the kettle, was audible. The TV was subpar, and people walking past the room and the interconnecting door being opened all night made it hard to sleep. For the price paid, the quality was poor compared to Premier Inn, where you know exactly what you’re getting.

“Tidy - staff good but watch your bill. No effort made to compensate.”

The location suited my needs, but I was charged twice by mistake even though I had prepaid. Mistakes happen, I suppose, but then I was also billed for a drink I definitely didn’t have, which spoiled the stay a bit.

“Pleasant but I wouldnt rush to stay there again.”

I spent a single night on business and was shocked by how dated the rooms were. The downstairs areas, especially the bar, were pleasant, yet the rest of the hotel seemed stuck in a time warp and would benefit from refurbishment. As a solo female traveler, the interconnecting door made me uneasy, so I requested a room change; the staff were helpful and arranged another room quickly. However, the lights flickered and were positioned directly above the bed, making the lighting unpleasant; bedside lamps would have helped. The room telephone didn’t work, and I had to walk back and forth to reception to turn on the heating. A few days later, when I called for a copy of the invoice, the staff member lied about sending an email and backtracked when confronted—this lack of professionalism is not what I expect at a Mercure.

“Location - good food - friendly & helpful staff”

The staff were friendly and the hotel was very clean; the restaurant offered a good food choice in the evening, and breakfast was lovely too! Nothing negative.
