The location is beautiful, but the bathroom is cramped, with mold in the shower seams and the faucet and stone sink not fitting together.

The hotel sits atop a hill with a view of Spangenberg and the castle looks stunning; the food is excellent and the staff are friendly. However, the bed is uncomfortable – the mattress and pillows are very soft, and a large wooden frame around the bed makes getting in and out difficult and causes you to hit the corners at night; the pillows also disappear behind the headboard during the night.

The breakfast was very good and plentiful, the room on the 3rd floor was quiet, large, and rustic, and there was no elevator (we heard the highway, but not the village fair). Parking is paid inside the castle walls (€15) or free right outside, and there is a kettle in the room. The only complaint is that the tap is too close to the edge of the sink, and the luggage was a bit cumbersome.

The reception was very personal, the staff—including the chef—were super nice, the restaurant is highly recommended, the room was not very large but cozy, and overall the stay was excellent; we’ll definitely come back. We were satisfied in every way.
