The onsen was great, and the location on the mountain offers a beautiful view, though the road to the hotel takes some getting used to.

“Hotel on a hill with lovely views”

The view from the hotel was amazing, and the room was comfortable and clean with a selection of colourful yukatas. The onsen was well designed with indoor and outdoor baths, and we even got free ice cream afterward. The staff were helpful when we asked for extra pillows. However, there was no private bathroom in the room, even though that was listed in our booking confirmation, so we only had a toilet with a sink/vanity and no shower or bathtub, which totally surprised us. The staff explained that all (or most?) rooms lacked a bathroom, which might explain why the onsen's shower area was crowded but the bath area was less so; we need clarification if something was lost in translation. Also, the half‑board option was a buffet for both breakfast and dinner, whereas dinner is usually table service, something we did not expect. The buffet offered a good selection of Japanese cuisine and some western options, but the spread was repeated over the two days we stayed, with the mains not changing, which could use improvement.
