We booked a beachfront pool villa that was nicely appointed and in a great spot. The kitchen team were especially warm and professional, and breakfast was both abundant and tasty. On arrival, we were told the boat from Kota Kinabalu to Gaya Island would cost 360 MYR (about £66), but the price had risen to 520 MYR (£95) when we were about to board, and the staff refused to honour the original quote, only informing us of the hike at the last moment. I had a three‑hour spa session – scrub, massage and facial – priced at roughly £150. The room was comfortable but not very clean, with a lot of dust under the treatment bed, and the massage and facial were only average. The wooden deck around the pool had warped planks with protruding nails, so we had to be careful not to injure our bare feet. Because the resort is isolated with few nearby attractions or local eateries, the on‑site restaurant options felt a bit limited, though the food itself was good but not varied.
