Being in the heart of town made getting anywhere a breeze; even on a rainy day the Kousai‑kan and the circular bus stop were close by, which was a relief. The room was spotless and comfortable, and despite the bustling surroundings I could still enjoy a very quiet stay.

The location was fantastic, and the hotel staff were very helpful. The breakfast at the nearby cafe was also great—friendly staff and delicious food. The only downside was that the hot water in the shower took a while to start.

This was my fourth visit, taking my elderly parents along. The setting and location were pleasant, and I’m happy with the hotel overall, so I’d like to stay again. Unfortunately the bathroom in our room wasn’t usable this time, probably due to bad timing. They arranged a hot‑spring ticket and even covered the taxi fare, but my mother said she didn’t want to go out when it got dark and declined to go.

Obuse is a charming village, and I happened to be there during the chestnut and apple season, but it would still be delightful any time of year. The open gardens make walking around especially enjoyable. The hotel sits right in town’s center, and most attractions—including a lovely café next door—are less than a five‑minute walk. Check‑in is fully self‑service, but the hosts sent plenty of instructions beforehand and left warm welcome notes in the room. My room was spacious and well‑equipped. The building itself is unusual compared to typical Japanese hotels, so I initially struggled to see it as a hotel. The rooms line up with doors facing a small parking lot, more like a tiny American‑style motel. When I stayed, the hotel had no hot water; the hosts gave me an entry coupon and taxi fare to a town bath (onsen). I really enjoyed the baths because they felt more community‑oriented than touristy, but some guests might find this inconvenient.
