“Quirky little place great location a must stay”
Everything was lovely—Kim and Fiona were wonderful. The place was quirky and we loved it, and breakfast was good.
We spent two nights at Te Anau lodge after a snowy drive, and everything turned out fine. Kym welcomed us at the door and arranged a bus to Milford Sound for the next morning. The historic building tour felt like stepping back in time. The stay was comfortable, and Kym served a solid breakfast each morning. If you want something off the beaten path instead of a typical motel, this place is a great pick.
“Quirky, fun place to stay. The garden was full of alternative decorations that were fun to explore.”
The place had a quirky vibe. We were upgraded to the homestead, which featured furnishings from the fifties to the eighties—an eclectic mix complete with a VCR and other nostalgic appliances. It was well heated, and the main building kept its convent charm. Overall, it was a great stay.
We loved staying here; Kym welcomed us immediately and suggested the Fiordland movie and booked dinner for us. Breakfast in the former chapel was excellent with continental choices plus eggs, sausage, and hash browns. The large tables let us meet other guests. Each room has a name and vibe; we stayed in the music room, which was lovely. Upstairs is a beautiful wood‑paneled library where you can enjoy wine, beer, sodas, hot water, and sweets, play backgammon or chess, read, or chat with guests. The garden is full of décor like a life‑size chess board, a carousel, an old piano, a big swing, and a train car that’s also a room. There was a laundry area, a godsend after two weeks of traveling. The only downside was the mattress wasn’t that comfortable, but everything else made up for it, and we’d definitely visit again if we ever get the chance to return to New Zealand.
“Comfortable.”
The accommodation was comfortable with thoughtful extras and a friendly host named Kim. The hot breakfast was included and good. The only downside was the walk from the town centre, though it wasn’t too far, especially since we didn’t have a car.
