The Royal Hotel

“The Royal is in need of some major TLC.”

The location was good and the bed was clean and comfortable. The hotel clearly needs an upgrade: worn carpets on the stairs, chipped paint and wallpaper in the reception, chipped enamel on the bath, a toilet pan that moved while using it, a soft and rotten wooden shelf, overall stale décor, a broken window sash, and a view of a flat roof and an opposite wall. I didn’t complain about the view, but the roof could be cleaned. I stayed only one night and won’t return.

The room was very spacious with a view of Oban Bay, but the interior feels very dated and clearly needs renovation.

“Not a luxurious stay by any stretch of the imagination but staff were helpful and courteous.”

The spot was spot on, and the room was spacious enough with a killer view, making the stay more than satisfactory overall, but the bathroom was cramped and the shower was broken.

Everyone on the front desk was friendly and helpful, and the hotel sits in a great location close to the train, ferry, and eateries, but everything feels a bit old‑fashioned, the room is tight, and the lighting is poor.
