The Farthings, a Victorian guest house built in 1895, offers traditionally furnished rooms with free Wi‑Fi, flat‑screen TVs, hospitality trays and Duck Island toiletries. Located in a quiet residential area, it lies a ten‑minute walk from York train station, historic attractions and the lively “Bishy” Road’s bars and cafés. Free on‑street parking requires advance permits, and a locally sourced Yorkshire breakfast—English, continental or vegetarian—serves each morning.

The overall place was a perfect guesthouse B and B, complete with many individualized features; the breakfast was lovely, the premises were very clean, and the reception was welcoming, so I would happily return.

The location was great and the breakfast was excellent.

The parking was a plus, but the place was very dated.

The beds were comfy, the vibe was a bit chintzy, and the full English breakfast was great, but the early check‑out time was a problem; we had stayed out late, so trying to grab breakfast and pack to leave by 10 am was rushed—11 am would be easier for guests who aren't early risers.

Nothing in particular, owner seemed nice. One bathroom on top floor between 4 rooms, floorboards make loads of noise, covered in dust, strange smell, decor hasn’t changed it seems since the 70s, described at 10 mins from city centre that’s a massive stretch, breakfast fairly average after having been described as exceptional, had a creepy faulty towers vibe
