The hotel sits on the Hadrian's Wall trail, and I stayed in an independent cabin that offered a great view of the field. The restaurant served excellent dinner and breakfast. The bathroom is tiny and a bit old.

The staff and location were amazing. We were guests at a wedding a few miles away at 1 pm, and check‑in was at 3 pm. They kindly let us leave our bags in the accommodation because the pub would be closed by the time the wedding ended. We stayed in the chalets at the back of the pub, which were clean with comfortable beds. Breakfast was amazing, beautifully cooked and presented, even catering for gluten‑free. Again, lovely staff. However, we were frozen! The heating malfunctioned and no one was available to contact at a late hour, so we slept—or tried to—in our coats! I wish we’d had a wooly hat. A clear sky and 5 degrees in a wooden chalet, cute but not pleasant.

The location was spot‑on and the food was very good, the chalet/cabin was cute, but we couldn’t get the heating working, and we didn’t want to go back to the bar in the rain because we were so tired.
