“A lovely grand hotel”

This old hotel had a charming vibe that felt like it once shone brightly; the rooms received a nice upgrade and the open areas were manned by helpful, friendly staff. Its spot right across from Nijo Castle is lovely, and it’s far enough from the main station to stay quiet. Taxis were always ready when we needed them, and they even rented us a wheelchair, which was a big help on our day trips. The teppenyaki restaurant was superb, and the grand chef served a beautiful meal. On the downside, many parts of the hotel were closed while we stayed—especially the pool—and rooms were still under renovation. Getting gluten‑free food was tough, a rarity for an IHG brand; after some negotiation they managed to provide gluten‑free rolls for the buffet breakfast, but we were told to request them in advance. The same issue occurred at the main Chinese restaurant, where we had to negotiate a gluten‑free meal each day. The staff were very helpful and the food was delicious, though the teppenyaki could have accommodated gluten‑free options more easily.

“Every think is good except the buffet, the same food every day and the bread is not fresh .”

The spa and sauna were disappointing.

“Nice, convenient, but missed on amenities.”

The bus to the train station was a nice convenience. The room was very clean except the shower/bath had mold stains. I missed the pool and fitness center. They didn’t give me liquid shower gel until the last day; I’d prefer that over bar soap.

Most hotels don’t have partner parking, but guests can freely enter and exit the hotel’s underground parking for free, and it’s a quiet, elegant place with attentive staff.
