“Beautiful place but anti lgbt”
The area around the pool was nice and full of plants. Unfortunately, a sign on our room door warned that “this is a sharia based homestay,” “no lgbt,” and that “any acts will be reported to the authorities.” It also stated that “non‑married couples” should not sleep in the same bed and asked if we wanted separate beds. Some staff were friendly, but others treated us like aliens. I understand that seeing two same‑gender people together might be unusual, but I would expect at least openness in a place that hosts international guests. I would have preferred full transparency from the start, especially knowing that lgbt people are not allowed there. If I had known beforehand that the place was explicitly anti‑lgbt, I would not have stayed because I don’t want to support that mindset.
