Omah Kepel is a perfect spot for exploring nearby villages and Mount Merapi. The bikes loaned by the host are a big plus for getting around. All the little houses are carefully decorated and the setting lets you fully relax. Ariah is a very generous and open host whose advice is useful. We are grateful that he arranged a cooking class with his neighbor and are happy to have chatted with him. Big positives include the coconut you can pick up and open yourself and the delicious pizza in the evening!

The hosts, pak Arya and ibu Debbie, have created a truly unique place on the beautiful slopes of Mount Merapi. It isn’t a typical hotel; it’s a genuinely wonderful experience! Adapt to the old Javanese tradition of bowing when you enter your charming little bungalow, or you’ll hit your head. Enjoy the old‑fashioned way of showering, with a gayung and hot water prepared over an open fire. Breakfast is traditional Javanese and spectacularly good! The table is always full of delicious snacks! Some might miss standard hotel comfort; the room doesn’t have an air conditioner, for example. Personally, I’d call that an advantage. The air is fresh and the fan is more than enough for a good night’s sleep!

The location of Rumah Kepel met my expectations, though I hesitated because it’s very close to residents’ houses. The owner and his family are friendly and very communicative, so staying at Rumah Kepel feels like staying in a family home. The location is cramped with residents.

This spot is ideal for unwinding, tucked beside rice paddies and managed by a warm family. I enjoyed a lovely dinner they cooked and felt the owner’s care in every detail, clearly enjoying hosting guests. I would definitely recommend it.
