I think this hostel ranks among the best I’ve ever stayed in; the beds even have curtains! The people are cool and the vibe is laid‑back.

From the moment I stepped into Balaio Hostel I felt at home. Roman, Igor and the whole team greet you like a long‑time friend. The atmosphere is relaxed, there’s always someone to chat with and plenty of unexpected moments. For me, it was an amazing stay. The only downside was that on some days the shower water wasn’t hot enough because many people were using it at once or there were only a few minutes between showers, but otherwise it’s the best hostel I could have hoped for on Ilha Grande.

This is the best hostel I’ve ever stayed at in Brazil! The welcoming vibe is lovely, and the social area with couches and hammocks is great. The volunteers are very friendly. The beds are comfy and come with privacy curtains. It could have been a bit cleaner, but it was cleaned daily. There’s just a lot of sand around and a lot of people using the bathrooms.

The vibe of the place is by far the best. It’s a very chill hostel, not a party spot. The staff are super kind and attentive. At night there are bonfires or BBQs. The facilities aren’t of high quality. Even though they clean in the mornings, it still feels a bit dirty.

The hostel is in the island’s center, it’s quiet at night, and everyone is very respectful.
