The place is about a 25‑minute walk to the beach. It’s marketed as a villa, yet an older gentleman lives downstairs right in front of the only pool, so you’re not alone. There are a few stairs to climb, and the guy who lives there—“not your porter,” he says—helped carry our suitcases up with a grumble but didn’t assist when we left. With both of us injured, we had to haul the luggage down ourselves, which wasn’t ideal.

The bedroom was really roomy, but the bathroom was awful—water never drained and it flooded every time I showered.

The bathroom had a slight odor from the drains; they tried to fix it, but after living in Bali I know that’s sometimes beyond their control. The staff were lovely.

I loved the pool and the spacious room with a great bed, and waking up to sunshine and perfect air‑con was a treat; they replaced the water in the room daily and turned it down every night. Breakfast was just average, except for the egg omelette; it could really wow guests and attract more people—many hotel guests were eating breakfast on the street instead.
