Great Lakes Inn Mackinaw City

“If not looking for flair it works well. The bunk beds was nice”

The photos were AI‑generated, which was fine for what I needed. The flat sheet on the bed only reached halfway down, and the spiders were everywhere—dozens of them—though none crawled into the room. Climbing the stairs was a struggle because the webs covered everything.

“I'll try to avoid this place in the future.”

The front desk staff were friendly, but they also handled three other motels and were absent in the evenings and at night. The advertised Wi‑Fi was almost nonexistent, so the connection was extremely weak.

“😬”

The location was close to the main road, but the room was cheaper for walk‑ins. I had to check in at a different hotel, didn’t feel safe, and would never stay here again; I was disappointed that they up‑charged walk‑in rates.

“Convenient location, affordable rates, a little rough around the edges.”

The rates were reasonable and the location was very convenient to everything in Mackinaw City. The bed was clean and really comfortable, the pillows were great, and the in‑room fridge was super cold—my food and drinks stayed very cold. The microwave was clean. The bathroom was dated but clean and functional, though the fan was loud. The HVAC system seemed to work well. The room had a strange odor, like a mix of old cleaning supplies and old‑woman perfume. The carpet looked like it needed a deep clean or replacement, and the area behind the beds and against the walls was very dirty.

The room had a slight musty smell, as expected for an older, non‑renovated hotel, and the advertised breakfast was false. For the price and location it was exactly what we needed, and the beds were more comfortable than expected.
