The meals were great, the room was large and comfy, and the staff were friendly and efficient.

“Great location but poor cleanliness, mediocre restaurant and poor breakfast.”

The location was prime, right near the harbour, but the whole place felt dirty, dusty and filthy to us. One of the windows in our room obviously hadn't been cleaned for a long time. The bathroom floor was swept daily, but only superficially, leaving dirt in the corners. Drawers in the chest of drawers in our room had not been cleaned; see the attached pictures. The restaurant was mediocre at best and quite pricey. Breakfast was a sad affair, quality varied; the frittata was good on the first morning but badly burnt on the underside on the last day. The coffee machine looked as if it had been cleaned in ages.

“overall very enjoyable”

Breakfast was always 100% and offered a lot of choice; the only thing that could improve is a better coffee machine. Some items were left in drawers by someone else, and I couldn't find a hairdryer until the end. The shower cubicle needs to be de‑moulded, and the door did not lock from the inside.

“Hotel was very good but Campbeltown as a destination was very disappointing”

The Black Sheep bar was sometimes disorganised, and the staff were very slow to clear and clean tables.

“It was a sad trip for us as we were there for a funeral. But the staff and the Hotel made it.”

Room 26 was very spacious and well appointed, with plenty of storage space and two very comfortable armchairs in a bay window that offered stunning views over the harbour. We had both dinner and breakfast at the hotel, and the food was of a very high order. The hotel has its own pub next door, which gets very lively, but the service was excellent. You have direct access to the pub from the reception area, and there is a quiet bar in the dining room area. There is also a quiet relaxing space with a sofa and chairs in the reception area. A lift serves all floors. We decided to stay an extra night. The parking could be an issue; it is street parking and it is busy all the time. There is parking directly across from the hotel, but for older folks and disabled people the road is wide, so take care crossing. We managed to park just past the hotel in a disabled space on the same side as the hotel. My wife has a disability and a blue badge.
