“Basic but comfortable stay”
We booked here because we were heading to St. Michael's Mount early the next day. The hotel and pub sit in a harbor area that feels a bit rough around the edges, but we enjoyed a lovely walk along the water toward Penzance, where we had a tasty pizza from a food truck while overlooking the sea. We finished with ice cream from S. Jelbert's, highly recommended! We went to bed early after a tiring road trip, and the pub’s noise didn’t bother us. Breakfast the next morning was delicious – fluffy scrambled eggs and great coffee, served by a super friendly hostess. The only issue was that we’re from the Netherlands and quite tall, so the low ceiling in the room wasn’t convenient; we bumped our hands against the ceiling and the light fixture a few times.
“Short visit to attend a show in the minack theatre”
A charming old inn full of character, the room was clean and functional, and breakfast was freshly cooked by very friendly staff; the quirky place’s history adds to its charm. I wasn’t sure where to park when I arrived, but luckily I could park right outside the door, and I think there’s a short‑stay car park nearby.
Nice room, great location, and incredibly friendly staff. Everything was perfect.
“Brilliant staff but need help - basic room!”
The staff were the only thing that stood out! There was no reception and checking in was a nightmare because only one staff member was handling both the bar and check‑ins – she was brilliant but unavailable! She gave us a complimentary drink, which was much appreciated since we had to wait so long while she served other customers. The room was basic and noisy – we love staying in pubs but could hear everything! In the morning the shower had no hot water, but breakfast was great and the staff were amazing again. I just wish the accommodation could match the staff!
“Quaint and comfortable lodging in the heart of Newlyn.”
The historic Swordfish has a lot of character and surpassed our expectations for comfort and cleanliness. The location is great: on the edge of the harbor and fish market, just blocks from cute shops and restaurants. The staff were helpful and breakfast was large and delicious. I highly recommend it.
