Pushkar sits around a holy lake on the edge of the Thar Desert. Life moves along 52 stone ghats and tight bazaar lanes where motorbikes compete with wandering cows. Take a local bus or taxi over the Snake Mountain pass from Ajmer station. The 15km drive drops you directly at Marwar Bus Stand.

A short history
Hindu tradition names Pushkar Lake as the spot where Lord Brahma dropped a lotus flower. Positioned on desert trade routes, the town evolved into a major pilgrimage center. Most current temple structures date from the 18th century onward after earlier medieval destructions during regional conflicts.

Pushkar has no commercial airport or major train station. All transit runs through Ajmer, 15km away across the Nag Pahar hill pass. Inside Pushkar, vehicle traffic is blocked on central bazaar streets, making walking the primary way to move.
