Quy Nhon served as a strategic port for the Champa kingdom between the 11th and 15th centuries under the name Thi Nai. The surrounding Binh Dinh region was the Cham political core, leaving behind brick towers and citadel walls that stand inland today.In the late 18th century, the three Tay Son brothers launched their national uprising from this province, defeating both southern lords and northern invaders.
