The Google map was handy, but the trek from Ørneberget stasjon to the lodge was brutal; my friends and I lugged two pieces of luggage and backpacks, and on the way back we had to walk 3 km to Ljosanbotn stasjon—an experience that felt more like a hike than a stroll.

De Flam, the booking says 20 km to the hotel but it’s actually 90 km via a lousy little road; paying €125 for a dorm room that’s technically single with its own bathroom is a scandal.

Location is very good when you are traveling by car. If you are traveling by train access to hotel is through risky mountain. Not at recommended with family

The staff are very friendly, warm, and genuinely interested in you, and the location itself is really nice.
