“Keep away if you have any sense”
I’ve tried hundreds of Airbnbs, hotels, and guest houses worldwide, and Askoka Palace ranks as the worst. The location is a muddy junction up an alley off the main road, making it hard to find. The place was filthy—cigarette butts littered the stairwell, and there were buckets of dirty water in the corridor. Noise was a problem: people downstairs talked until the early hours, and the hard floors echoed the sound throughout the building. The pillows were disgusting and smelled bad, and the bed sheets had holes. There were no towels, toilet paper, soap, or shampoo, so I had to go downstairs to ask for basics. Hot water was absent, which is unacceptable after a 16‑hour journey. The internet kept dropping out, ruining attempts to book flights. I couldn’t close the window, so I was exposed to traffic noise and swarms of mosquitoes, and the curtains were filthy and looked like they might fall apart. I paid 2500 rupees for the night, packed up the next morning, and left, feeling the staff’s attitude was both disgusting and argumentative. This cheap property should be removed from any booking platform.
