The accommodation was fine and the staff were helpful. I recommend it.

The only thing I liked was the bed. The veranda was dirty with rat droppings. Reception was unhelpful, uninterested, and unwilling, with limited English for tourist information. Breakfast was a tiny bit of pork, all fat, and I had to push for hot water. There was major construction going on.

We stayed overnight because we were exhausted after a long drive and this was the only option we found. The room was tiny but sufficient. There was no AC, only a fan, so it got a little hot overnight. Breakfast was not included in the price.

They actually locked me and the other guests behind a steel gate, preventing any exit. I woke at 6:00 a.m. ready to start my day, only to find a locked gate with no staff to open it. I banged on the gate and shouted down the hallway, but got no response. After 45 minutes of frustration, I forced my way around to the side junk pile, climbed onto a Jeep, and then scrambled over a barbed wire fence like a prison. I’ve stayed in many rough places worldwide, but never had a hotel lock me in with no escape except a barbed wire fence—what if there had been a fire? After my trip, I told the manager about the incident; he smiled and apologized, but when I said I wouldn’t stay another night, he turned off the power to my room, leaving me without hot water or air conditioning to clean up and pack. The hotel looked nice and inviting on arrival, the restaurant was open, the room was basic, and they struggled to start the air conditioner. Inspecting their electrical system made me uneasy about fire hazards, and I never knew about the gate lock at night, which would have changed my decision. I’m not trying to impose Western standards, but this clearly violates Philippine fire safety codes.
