The Vanhanaikainen vibe was great, and the location was spot on. The toilet wasn’t in the room but in a separate area, and there were cockroaches crawling out of the drain while you were showering. The place is noisy because it’s in the city center, and the floor on the upper floor creaks so much that it’s impossible to rest if someone is in a room above you. The price was high, even though the location was good.

The location is excellent for Chania centre and the old town, and the self‑check‑in was easy. The room was clean and the bed comfortable. The bathroom and kitchen (mostly the bathroom) are separated from the bedroom by a common staircase landing, which is unusual but not unique in these old buildings; it could be explained more clearly in the listing. You do get a message about it after the reservation is confirmed, but it might bother some guests more than others. In typical old‑Chania buildings, it’s not always possible to integrate bathroom plumbing into each apartment, and many similar venues only offer shared facilities.

The location is excellent, the room is huge and comfortable. It definitely needs better soundproofing because there’s quite a bit of street noise.

In the heart of the old city, a historic building on a lane with a window overlooking a colorful local restaurant, I felt the life of the locals. The city center looks beautiful by day and night, everything is close: the harbor is a few hundred meters away, a big wall is 50 m, restaurants 50–100 m, beaches 10–40 min walk or bus 21 for 1.3 e to the best ones like Iguana and Yannis. The apartment is old but has everything we needed: air‑conditioning, an old bathroom that works, a fridge and TV, a large room with a comfortable bed. The ceiling is very high with lovely old wooden beams. The host has an office right next to the entrance and speaks English. The stairs have a few scratches and everything is very old, but that gives it character and now feels even more interesting.
